In “About Negotiation”, the artists David Siepert and Stefan Baltensperger confront a pair of migrant workers who have just arrived in the metropolis, with the offer to buy all of the belongings the travellers have carried with them. The artists use this ethically questionable offer to place the personal belowings of the pair in a framework of economic value. They provoke a negotiation of emotional and material value, as well as cultural principles.
The subtitle reveal a further level of cultural discourse. The comparison of the immediate on the spot translation with the more literal subtitles fragmentally expose cultural and language immanent differences.
In „About Negotiation“ konfrontieren Stefan Baltensperger und David Siepert ein soeben in einer Metropole angekommenes Wanderarbeiter-Paar mit dem Angebot, ihnen ihr komplettes mitgeführtes Hab und Gut abzukaufen. Mit diesem ethisch fragwürdigen Angebot stellen die Künstler die persönlichen Gegenstände des Paares in einen wirtschaftlichen Wertekontext. Sie provozieren eine Verhandlung über materielle und emotionale Werte sowie über kulturelle Prinzipien.
In den Untertiteln eröffnet sich eine weitere kulturelle Verhandlungsebene. Durch die unmittelbare Übersetzung vor Ort und die Gegenüberstellung mit der wörtlichen Übersetzung, werden kultur- und sprachimmanente Unterschiede fragmental sicht- und wahrnehmbar.
